Fail to Plan….or Plan to Fail by Sharlyn Lauby, SPHR
By Sharlyn Lauby, SPHR
It’s just that simple. As a 20-year Human Resources professional, I’ve seen colleagues and HR departments struggle or outright fail because they didn’t have a strategic plan in place. Customer expectations, market supply and demand, competitors and other environmental factors change all the time. A strategic plan provides business and operational strategies to meet changing market conditions. History has shown us that during these challenging economic times, innovation and creativity are at their highest. Some of our life-changing companies like GE, CNN and Microsoft were created during an economic downturn.
So what’s the next great invention? And is your organization prepared to use it (or possibly compete in the global marketplace with it)? As a partner in your company’s leadership team, it’s your job to lead them though the planning process.
As author of the blog HR Bartender, I’ve written several articles on the importance of strategic planning. I’ve discussed the power of social media and helped HR pros prepare for their moment of truth. And I’m bringing many of the same thoughts to the SHRM Annual Conference:
1. Understand the relationship between strategic planning and business results
2. Learn the four steps to developing a strategic plan
3. Discuss current business examples of strategic planning in the workplace
So plan to join us for this informative educational session on Tuesday, June 30 at 10:45 AM. Look forward to seeing you there!
